Approximately 3.25 by 3.5 inches of coneflower, inked heavy and dark, stamped over a square of collage. The petals sweep back from a seeded dome of a center, and behind them sit columns of handwriting, ruled lines, a sunburst circle and a scatter of ink blots. One sentiment comes with it, in mixed typewriter and script: “there is only one choice when you are down and that is to rise back up.” Send it to someone climbing out of a hard stretch, whether that is illness, loss or a plain bad year. The solid areas need a well-inked pad, and one color of pencil over the petals is all the coloring it wants.
