What to write in a Thanksgiving card

A Thanksgiving card is a thank-you card with a pumpkin on it. That is the whole secret, and it is why these are the easiest holiday cards of the year to write.

• Front: one short fall saying from the lists below, or the word thankful by itself.
• Inside: name one thing. Not "thankful for you" in general, but the specific thing. "Thankful you drove four hours in August." "Thankful for Tuesday coffee." One sentence, then your name.
• For place cards: the short sayings below, one per card, the person's name underneath. Nothing inside.
• For the host: a thank-you line, sent the week after. It is the card nobody sends and everybody keeps.

Making the Thanksgiving batch

Place cards, host cards and the thank-yous for after all come from the same two stamps: one leaf or pumpkin, one short saying. Stamp the image on every card first, then the saying, then write the one specific thing inside. Our stamps are red rubber on cling foam, so they go on and off the acrylic block in a second and the whole batch takes an evening.

Kraft is the base for fall. Orange goes on the pumpkin, not on the card.
